A forest engulfed

Fire rose to an ashen sky

Destruction of life

Born of flame and soot

I rise in the aftermath

Growing strong and dark

My being was vast

Roots holding strong to black soil

Limbs lifting in height

Large creatures feared me

For my body held sharp thorns

Death would be their fate

I safeguard the small

Scared things in need of a home

Seek shelter with me

We flourish as one

For a time there was concord

But nothing can last

It came as a voice

A whisper soft and quiet

Stranger in my brush

He was small in scale

Yet felt whenever he moved

Connecting two worlds

Traveler he was

But restless and uncertain

Something was quite wrong

Land became barren

Rain no longer fell to drink

Life to a graveyard
